My First Day At Chemo School

Again, rather than create a new post I’ll just copy and paste the second update email I sent to my family.    This was after my first chemo treatment that consists of two separate drugs – Cisplatin and Gemzar which requires about 6 hours of sitting in a chair with a needle in your arm.

I think Lindbergh got done with his flight sooner than I got through the first treatment.

9:00 am arrival – 3:00 pm departure. All the fun of waiting a long time for a flight with no airport bar.

People were great. Pulling a Sheldon – I have found my perfect chair (check out The Big Bang video link if you don’t know what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WS55-q4fOjU .) I’ll have to ask someone to move if they are in it next time. Chair is very comfortable… place has free wifi – did emails, wrote some stuff… answered some text messages. I could probably do a quick phone call if I wanted and if I kept the volume down. I do two separate drugs – one takes 30 minutes the other takes 1.5 hours – but I also have two 1-hour bags of saline solution to flush the system and some steroids and anti-nausea bags. All of that takes a while to drip into the vein.

Tomorrow and the next day are the real issue days – could be nauseous and could be tired – but we’ll see. They’ve given me plenty of drugs for that so I’m hoping I’m fine.

Next Tuesday is a short one – only one drug – in and out in an hour.

Then off the next week.

Then back on again – 3 more times same schedule.

I’ll let you know if I have any issues like growing more fingers, growing hair (wouldn’t that be nice) or temporary Tourettes Syndrome ( I might just say that to have some fun with the people.)

Ta Ta for now…
