The Waiting Game…
Yesterday, April 9, I had my first, of what will be many more, CT Scans and X-rays to see if the cancer has decided to stick around. The process itself ain’t no thang.
The X-rays don’t require any special prep… just go in, stand in front of the film and click/whirr… all done.
The CT Scan is a bit different.
First of all, nothing to eat or drink after midnight the day of the scan. My scan was at 11:00 a.m. so no big issue there. You do get a bit thirsty but it isn’t too difficult. Then when I get to the clinic I have to drink 2 things of “contrast liquid” that has the consistency of liquid chalk with a hint of vanilla flavoring. I have to drink one when I get there and then one an hour later. While I’m waiting for second drink, they put an IV line in. The IV will be used during the scan to inject something into my bloodstream to highlight some of the arteries and veins. The funny thing about this stuff is that it makes your face, throat and, ahem, how should we say this… your nether regions… warm up like someone threw an electric blanket set on high onto your lap.
May I have another please?
But seriously, easy peasy. In and out with no problems.
Except…
I now have to wait a week for the results. The Docs need to review and evaluate the output and then I get the news at my appointment next week.
That’s the tough part. Someone out there knows the results of my scans and x-rays – but NOT ME!
I feel a lot like Homer does in the video below (subscribers may need to click through to see the video.)
I’ll update you all next week after I get the results – keep your fingers crossed!
